Why did bioware get rid of slot machines

Why did gamefreak remove the slot machines from soul/gold pokemon game outside of Japan? What is the reason for it, did the law say they had to. I loved going on the slots in the other versions.

But far as cheap i am not sure you could get them cheap any place unless you find someone that had them and just wanted to dump them for cheap.
